Sometimes mom is on the sofa. Sometimes there are kids in the other room. Sometimes the group is mixed and half of them did not vote for this. Tell us. It changes the bit more than the occasion name.
We are not going to write a policy we do not publish. We will match the room. Indoor, smaller, shorter is the usual direction. A shared pool is a bad idea if you cannot control who walks through.
Say who will be watching
Guest of honor, her friends, and her mother is a different room than twelve people who came for the bit. Quiet versus loud still applies. Say which one in the first text.
Black tie, a door knock that stays small, a bartender for the first hour: those fit mixed rooms more often than SWAT. That is a recommendation, not a menu. You can still look at the lineup after you tell us the crowd.
The building does not care
Family in the room does not relax a “no parties” listing. Rules first. Length is still 30 or 60. A short set is usually enough when part of the group will leave the living room.
If it is also a surprise, keep the guest of honor in the room and give a 30-minute window. That arrival is separate.
